A Herpetologist will arrive 15 to 30 minutes prior to the designated time with the animals in plastic storage containers made for transporting these animals. These containers have latched lids for safety. The Herpetologist will check in with you prior to unloading the animals to determine the best way to proceed. It is usually not necessary for you to assist with this process. Reptiles do not require large containers for programs such as these, and so are easy to transport.
All programs begin with a talk to the children and parents on safety and appropriate conduct. This covers the rules for asking questions, handling artifacts, touching animals, and washing hands after touching . There will be an assortment of animals, some of which can be touched and some not. The instructor will inform the group how to respond to the animals each time one is brought out. At the end of the program, we will present the birthday child with a Junior Herpetologist Certificate and an Alligator tooth in a bottle.
For the enjoyment and safety of all involved, we ask that you follow these simple guidelines. Please provide a space for the Herpetologist that will not allow the children to surround him/her and the animals. Basically, put their backs to the wall, probably the safest place to be in a room full of sugar enriched children after all! Please do not serve food during the program.
We hope you and your child will find this to be the incredible experience we strive to provide. Again, feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
